A few goods may not be imported under any circumstances. Many other goods are subject to tarrifs. But most goods may be imported from other countries without either restrictions or tariffs.

Importing goods can be a great business. I strongly suggest that you find an manufacturer that agrees to a multi-year exclusive contract. Otherwise you could work hard developing a market for a product, only to have the manufacturer either cancel your deal or add additional, competing importers.

Secondly be sure to find a product that allows you a hefty mark-up. You will have a lot of costs such as freight-in, terminal and custom fees, sales costs, bad debt if you are selling on credit, and more.

I have however seen some people with little business experience quickly build a sizable and successful importing enterprise.

Good luck!
