Harnessing Direct Mail

Direct mail packages vary from simple postcards to fat envelopes stuffed with full-color flyers and, typically, consist of the following:

Sales letter
The first thing you usually see when you open a direct mail package is a sales letter. direct mail package is a name, or it could be a form letter addressed to Dear Sir or Madam.

Mail piece
The next piece one typically sees is a brochure or flyer. This piece is designed to reinforce the sales letter and set an image for the company and product. It is typically 11" x 17", folded to letter size. This brochure might printed in one or two colors or feature four-color printing.

Business reply card
A postage-paid business reply card allows the customer to reply to the mailing easily. Or a postage-paid business reply envelope may be used so that the customer is able to mail a check back.

No. 10 business envelope
Direct mail is usually sent in standard business size (No. 10) envelopes. Sometimes a "teaser" is printed on the envelope to entice a customer to open it. The post office has kits that provide setup information for designing envelope teasers and placing important mailing information to ensure fast delivery.
