Streetwise Tips On Communication

Make quality and consistent communication a given responsibility for all management positions.
This should be included in the job description for every manager.

Don't overreact to what you hear. Before you react, confirm and clarify what you think you have heard.

Make sure you make listening a key part of your communication strategy. Practice, practice, practice.

Recognize your style of listening and appreciate and respect the style of others with whom you work.

Don't stay in your ivory tower. Interact in as many ways as possible.
If you spend all your time in the office, you will never be able to fully communicate with your employees.

Every communication vehicle or tool you use should reflect your corporate mission and culture.

Follow up each meeting with personal action steps that will communicate and demonstrate the value of the meeting everyone just attended.
You need to let people know that they are valuable and that the time they spend with you in meetings has value to the company.

Don't forget to thank people for a job well done and for efforts expended.
Don't miss any opportunity to reinforce positive behaviors and actions.
